Maharashtra “insensitive” towards farmers’ plight: Uddhav
The Hindu Article

The Shiv Sena on Friday accused the Congress-led Democratic Front Government in Maharashtra of being “insensitive” towards the plight of farmers in the state.

“When the state is facing an acute agrarian crisis, the Congress-led Democratic Front Government is busy holding series of cabinet meetings instead of focusing on the core issue,” Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said.

“The soybean crop of farmers in most part of Vidarbha region has suffered extensive damages due to sudden attack of pests,” Mr. Thackeray told reporters here on Friday.

Mr. Thackeray who is currently touring the region as part of his ‘Shiv Samwad’ (interaction with people) programme said the DF government was running only on paper.

Reacting to Union Heavy Industries Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh’s, remarks that Sena’s ‘Samwad’ programme was not evoking desired response, Mr. Uddhav said the former chief minister was a “merciless politician” while dealing with farmers’ problem in the state.

Mr. Thackeray was in the city to witness premier of ‘Gosht Chhoti Dongraawdhi’, a Marathi movie featuring the plight of farmers and agrarian crisis in the backdrop of about 10,000 suicides by debt-ridden farmers in the state.
